Man sues Wheeling ER physician for negligence

Medical malpractice 09

WHEELING – A man is suing a physician he claims was negligent while caring for him.

Dr. Christopher Gooch was named as a defendant in the suit.

On April 26, 2014, Charles R. White was a patient and received medical care and treatment from Gooch at the Ohio Valley Medical Center Emergency Department, according to a complaint filed in Ohio Circuit Court.

White claims he suffered a lawnmower injury to his left great toe, lacerations to his second and third toes and left foot and sought treatment at OVMC.

While at the hospital, White was evaluated by Gooch and was discharged after his left foot was x-rayed, cleaned, sutured and he was given a tetanus shot, pain medication and instructed to follow up with a hand surgeon, according to the suit.

White claims he was at a serious risk and threat of infection and infectious disease and Gooch deviated from the applicable standards of care for reasonably prudent emergency room physicians in the evaluation, care and treatment of trauma patients.

As a result of the defendant’s deviation from the standard of care, White suffered continued progression and worsening of infection; further injury and pain; and additional hospitalization, including surgical debridement and need for amputation of the left great toe, according to the suit.

White is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. He is being represented by C. Richard Wilson of Wilson Law Offices; and Wesley W. Metheney of Wilson Frame & Metheney PLLC.
