The City of Summersville is doing business as Summersville Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Lukasz Rostocki was also named as a defendant in the suit.
In August 2014, Windy Pittman was a patient at SRMC and Rostocki performed surgery on her, according to a complaint filed Aug. 5 in Nicholas Circuit Court.
Pittman claims upon laparoscopic entry, Rostocki immediately recognized the pelvic area was impossible to explore, however, he proceeded with the attempted dissection of the adhesions and in doing so, he opened Pittman’s vaginal vault, which he did not plan or intend to open.
Rostocki then cut a hole in Pittman’s bladder and then converted the laparoscopy into an open laparotomy and sewed off the left side of Pittman’s bladder, closing the hole he had made, according to the suit.
Pittman claims she was later discharged and her bladder began to leak urine and she went back to SRMC with complaints of vaginal bleeding and was told to follow up with Rostocki in three days.
On Aug. 19, 2014, Pittman was transported to SRMC emergency department by ambulance, suffering from back pain, vomiting and constant sharp, stabbing pain and a urologist was consulted and a cystoscopy was performed, according to the suit.
Pittman claims she was then transferred to WVU Hospitals for treatment and management after the urologist diagnosed her with left hydronephrosis with suspected obstruction of the proximate ureter at the vesicourteral junction and incomplete closure of the bladder.
The defendants did not properly fix a life threatening injury they caused or properly refer Pittman for a proper fix of the life threatening injury they caused, according to the suit.
Pittman and her husband, Joshua Pittman, are seeking compensatory and punitive damages. They are being represented by Tony L. O’Dell and Cheryl A. Fisher of Tiano O’Dell PLLC.
