BECKLEY — A former Liberty University student has filed a class-action lawsuit against Reliant Capital Solutions LLC, a debt collector, citing alleged unfair and unconscionable collection practices.

Stephen Snuffer filed a complaint on Aug. 23 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Reliant Capital Solutions LLC, alleging that the debt collector violated the West Virginia Consumer Credit Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendant's collection practices caused him to be annoyed, aggravated, harassed, bothered, upset and angered. The plaintiff holds Reliant Capital Solutions LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly engaged in oppressive and abusive conduct in attempting to collect a debt by adding collection fees and attorney fees to the alleged debt.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for actual damages, statutory damages, attorneys' fees, costs of litigation and such other relief. He is represented by Ralph C. Young, Christopher B. Frost, Steven R. Broadwater, Jr. and Jed R. Nolan of Hamilton, Burgess, Young & Pollard PLLC in Fayetteville.
