HUNTINGTON – The West Virginia Sheriffs’ Association has announced it is endorsing Doug Reynolds for Attorney General in the upcoming election.

Sheriff R. Steven Tanner, president of the association, said in making endorsements for candidates for public office, the group take the responsibility very seriously.

“After reviewing Doug’s application, the WVSA delivers its confidence that he is well suited for the position,” said Tanner, who is sheriff of Raleigh County. “In the current state of our state, we applaud Doug’s willingness to participate in public service to make our communities the best possible, and we are pleased to present him our endorsement.

"We look forward to working with Doug to build stronger communities, combat drug abuse and make them as safe as possible.”

Reynolds says he’s honored to have the support and endorsement of the organization and its members.

“The men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line every day and deserve our respect and admiration,” said Reynolds, a Democrat. “I’ve always supported our law enforcement officers and as Attorney General, I will continue fighting for all West Virginians.

"The issues facing West Virginia demand bold leadership, not a D.C. insider who is working solely to advance his own political career. I look forward to working alongside law enforcement to address the drug epidemic that is plaguing our state and killing our children.”

The West Virginia Sheriffs' Association is a non-profit organization made up of the sheriffs in all 55 counties in West Virginia. The WVSA is dedicated to the professionalism of the Office of Sheriff in the state. It also has thousands of honorary members across the state.

Reynolds is challenging incumbent Patrick Morrisey for the seat. The general election is Nov. 8. Others running for the seat Libertarian Karl Kolenich and Mountain Party candidate Michael Sharley.
