CHARLESTON — A Canadian couple is suing Comfort Suites, alleging the defendant's negligence led to injuries for the wife.

Suzanne Brenner and Brian Brenner of Ontario filed a lawsuit Aug. 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia against Gateway Hospitality Parkersburg LLC, doing business as Comfort Suites - Parkersburg, alleging, breach of duty in failing to care to maintain its premises in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 1, 2014, Suzanne Brenner and Brian Brenner checked in at the hotel in Parkersburg. Suzanne Brenner, the suit says, went into the bathroom to take a shower when she slipped and fell hard onto her back and bottom.

The lawsuit says Brenner sustained severe injuries and medical expenses to treat her injuries. The plaintiffs allege the defendant failed to take necessary precautions to prevent its customers from suffering avoidable accidents and failed to install necessary safety equipment around the bathtub.

The Brenners seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, plus interest, attorney fees, court costs, expenses and all other relief. They are represented by attorneys Brian J. Headley of Headley Law LLC in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and by Bruce M. White of The Law Offices of Bruce M. White LLC in Parkersburg.
