Grandmother alleges Beckley auto dealership broke law

Law money 10

BECKLEY — A Raleigh County grandmother is suing a used vehicle dealership, alleging she was illegally induced into purchasing a vehicle for an inflated price.

Betty J. Worrell, 86, filed a lawsuit Sept. 28 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Ramey Motors Inc., alleging violation of the Truth in Lending Act.

According to the complaint, Worrell suffered significant monetary damage for being the primary purchaser of a 2012 Buick Enclave at a price of $29,372.25. The suit says she additionally suffers worry and stress as a result of her depleting savings.

The plaintiff alleges Ramey Motors induced her to sign as a cosigner for her grandson to purchase the vehicle, failed to provide any document for the transaction and misrepresented that the total financing price would be approximately $12,000.

Worrell seeks trial by jury, declaration the contract is unenforceable, compensation for actual damages and twice the finance charges, attorney fees and court costs, plus all other relief. She is represented by attorney Bren J. Pomponio of Mountain State Justice Inc. in Charleston.
