Morrisey endorsed by oil and gas association, coal association

Election

CHARLESTON – Two energy-related groups have endorsed incumbent West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey in his re-election campaign.

The Independent Oil & Gas Association of West Virginia gave it's first ever political endorsement for a statewide office to Morrisey.

“In an otherwise very difficult set of circumstances for those whose business is to develop clean burning and abundant natural gas for the benefit of West Virginia and the nation, Attorney General Morrisey’s actions have provided a ray of hope and evidence that someone in leadership in our state really cares," IOGA President Scott Freshwater said.

“I am humbled and honored to receive the support of over 600 oil and gas companies and their thousands of employees," Morrisey said in a statement. "I will continue to fight every day against the burdensome, illegal regulations imposed upon our state’s most vital job creators."

Also, the West Virginia Coal Association recently endorsed Morrisey.

Coal Association President Bill Raney said "no one has done more to defend our jobs, our industry, and our West Virginia way of life than Patrick Morrisey as our attorney general.”

In an opinion piece, Raney, also says why he thinks Doug Reynolds would fail to protect West Virginia’s economy as attorney general:

“For the last four years, no one has done more to defend our jobs, our industry and our West Virginia way of life than Patrick Morrisey, as our Attorney General," Raney wrote. "On behalf of our coal industry, our managers and the best coal miners in the world, we have to do everything possible to be sure Patrick Morrisey is re-elected and will continue to serve as our Attorney General.

"The Obama administration has done nothing but brings negativity to our coal miners’ jobs and economic harm to our state. Attorney General Morrisey has mounted strong and fruitful legal initiatives to stop this war on coal and protect our people.

“While the presidential and gubernatorial races have taken up most of the limelight, our attorney general has been getting more than one-half of the states in this nation to join his efforts to stop the EPA’s assault on our coal and agricultural industries. Because of that, those of us who depend on the coal industry for our livelihood and as a means for remaining in West Virginia must recognize that this race for attorney general has enormous consequences for our state and its future.”
