Woman sues Community Health Association for husband’s death

WINFIELD – A woman is suing Community Health Association after she claims it is responsible for her husband’s death.

Community Health Association is doing business as Jackson General Hospital.

Ohio Valley Physicians Inc.; and Drs. Stephen Craig Shy II and Adam Alley were also named as defendants in the suit.

On April 12, Wayne Carney was seen in the emergency department of Jackson General Hospital and was vomiting large amounts of bright red blood, was lethargic and in and out of consciousness, according to a complaint filed Oct. 5 in Putnam Circuit Court.

Karen Carney claims after waiting for hours, Wayne Carney was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he died the following day of an esophagus hemorrhage.

The defendants negligently, willfully and wantonly or with reckless disregard of risk of harm to Wayne Carney, caused his death, according to the suit.

Karen Carney claims the defendants breached their applicable standard of care in the care and treatment rendered to Wayne Carney.

Karen Carney is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment costs. She is being represented Richard D. Lindsay and Dr. Richard D. Lindsay of Tabor Lindsay& Associates.
