Estate administrator blames Charleston medical center for patient's death

Medical malpractice 08

CHARLESTON — A Charleston woman is suing a local medical care provider, alleging its negligence led to the death of the patient.

Jennifer Hickman, administrator of the estate of Al Cindy Crowder, filed a lawsuit Oct. 26 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Charleston Area Medical Center Inc. alleging the defendant carelessly deviated from the appropriate standard of care.

According to the complaint, Crowder, 62, was admitted to Charleston Area Medical Center on June 4, 2014, for intractable back pain. During her CT scan procedure, the suit says, Crowder was dropped and, following that procedure, she complained of increased pain and weakness.

The lawsuit states due to the delay of improperly diagnosing and treating Crowder, she suffered paralysis and death. The plaintiff alleges Charleston Area Medical Center employees failed to address Crowder's complaint, negligently dropped her during a CT scan procedure and failed to conduct appropriate examination and treatment.

Hickman seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages, punitive damages, pre- and post judgment interest and all other relief they she is entitled to receive. She is represented by attorneys Rich Lindsay and Richard Lindsay of Tabor Lindsay & Associates in Charleston.
