PRINCETON — A Virginia woman is suing her former employers, alleging workers' compensation discrimination.
Anita Ellis of Bluefield, Virginia, filed a lawsuit Nov. 9 in Mercer Circuit Court against Rent-A-Center Inc. and Rent-A-Center East Inc., alleging they engaged in unlawful discrimination.
According to the complaint, on Nov. 11, 2014, Ellis was terminated from her employment as an assistant manager. As a result, the suit says, Ellis has suffered loss of wages and benefits, emotional distress, inconvenience and humiliation.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants engaged in discriminatory practices by terminating her employment while she was off work due to a compensable injury that resulted from a shoulder injury on the job April 8, 2014.
Ellis seeks trial by jury, compensatory, consequential and punitive damages, attorney fees and litigation costs and all just and equitable relief. She is represented by attorneys Jerome J. McFadden of Law Offices of Jerome McFadden PLLC in Princeton, and by James D. McQueen Jr. of McQueen Davis PLLC in Huntington.
