LOGAN — A Logan County woman is suing coal mining operators, alleging sexual harassment and violation of her constitutional rights.
Amanda Hayes of Holden filed a complaint Jan. 10 in Logan Circuit Court against Alpha Natural Resources Services LLC and Bill Hatfield, alleging violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act.
According to the complaint, on March 5, 2016, Hayes started working at the defendant's Alpha's Aracoma Mine as a custodian. As a result of the defendants actions, the suit says, Hayes has suffered pain and suffering, emotional distress, humiliation and other consequential damages.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants subjected her to sexual abuse and/or sexual harassment, that Alpha negligently failed to evaluate and screen Hatfield, and Alpha failed to properly supervise and monitor him.
Hayes seeks compensatory damages, pre-judgment interest, attorney fees and court costs and all other equitable relief. She is represented by attorneys J. Christopher White and Steven S. Wolfe of Wolfe, White & Associates in Logan.
