KINGWOOD — A husband and wife are suing Preston Memorial Hospital Corp., citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.
Michael R. Guthrie and Gloria J. Guthrie filed a complaint Jan. 17 in Preston Circuit Court against Preston Memorial Hospital alleging the health care provider negligently deviated from the standards of medical care procedures.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that as a result of the hospital's negligence, Michael Guthrie developed cellulitis, gangrene, osteomyelitis and sepsis that ultimately led to a below-knee amputation of his right leg, which resulted in physical and mental pain, physical deformity and loss of earning capacity. Gloria Guthrie suffered loss of consortium. The plaintiffs hold Preston Memorial Hospital responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly examine, diagnose and treat Michael Guthrie's condition.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory and punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney's fees and costs and such other appropriate relief. They are represented by Jacques R. Williams and Brianna W. McCardle of Hamstead, Williams & Shook PLLC in Morgantown.
