Son blames nursing home facility operators for mother's duress

CHARLESTON — A son is suing Charleston nursing home facility operators, alleging negligence led to his mother suffering injuries.

Coda Edgell, on behalf of his mother Lorene Edgell, filed a lawsuit Jan. 13 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Genesis Healthcare LLC, 1000 Lincoln Drive Operations LLC, John Does 1-10 et al, alleging failure to discharge their obligations of care to the plaintiff's mother.

According between April 30, 2015 and May 15, 2016, Lorene Edgell, 71, was a resident at the defendant's Valley Center, a skilled nursing home facility in Charleston, when she sustained catastrophic injuries and damages including falls, shoulder dislocation and weight loss. The suit says she has suffered pain and suffering, disfigurement and mental anguish. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly manage operate and control Valley Center, failed to provide adequate resources and failed to implement appropriate policies and procedures.

Coda Edgell seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages to be determined by the court, plus costs of court and all other equitable relief. He is represented by attorneys James B.
