CHARLESTON – Charles R. “Rusty” Webb said a new client who serves in the military was chose to win a free divorce as part of The Webb Law Centre PLLC’s 10th annual Free Valentine’s Day Divorce contest.
Webb said the winning story submitted by “Brian H.” from Putnam County was selected on Feb. 10. He did not want to immediately disclose the full name of the winner, pending authorization from the client.

“It was basically a marriage after a very-short term relationship,” Webb told The West Virginia Record.
According to a release from the firm, the free divorce is awarded each year to the person who, in Webb’s opinion, presents the most compelling story as to why they should receive it.
“We chose his story because he was in the military,” Webb said. “We want to help out military when we can.”
As in past years, the free divorce offer is limited to someone seeking an uncontested, no-fault divorce with no child custody issues in play. In addition, the divorce proceeding must be in the West Virginia jurisdiction. Current clients of the Webb Law Centre are not eligible to win.
Although the winning client’s soon-to-be ex-wife is believed to now reside in Texas, Webb said the winning divorce proceedings will be conducted in Putnam County.
This year’s contest received a good response from potential clients.
“We got about a dozen entries,” Webb said.
Webb is a personal injury and divorce attorney with 30 years of experience. According to the release, Webb handles personal injury cases on a contingency basis, allowing clients to secure legal representation with no obligation to pay legal fees unless they receive a recovery.
The firm also handles high-conflict divorce proceedings.
A native West Virginian, Webb attended public schools in Madison and received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Marshall University, according to biographical information listed on the firm’s website. He also attended Ohio Northern University’s Claude W. Pettit College of Law and, after attending the University of Notre Dame’s London Law Centre to study international law, transferred to the West Virginia University College of Law, where he earned a doctor of juris prudence degree.
In addition to his legal career, Webb has long served in politics.
In 1994, he was elected to the Kanawha County Republican Executive Committee. In 2000, he was elected as an delegate to the Republican National Convention. In 1996, he was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates and served for four terms.
Webb Law Firm was established in February 2006.
“His practice focuses primarily on representing regular people who need help having their voice heard in the legal system,” according to Webb’s profile.
In the community, Webb serves as a member of the board of advisors to the West Virginia Junior College in Charleston, he is a member of the board of trustees of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation at Marshall University, and he is a member of a variety of outdoor preservation and civil rights organizations, including Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, the National Rifle Association and B.A.S.S.
