CHARLESTON — A Wood County woman is suing the West Virginia Department of Commerce, alleging violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act .

Teresa L. Longfellow filed a complaint Feb. 6 in Kanawha Circuit Court against the West Virginia Department of Commerce, alleging violating the plaintiff's right to have the same equal treatment as her male contemporaries.

According to the complaint, on May 31, 2016, Longfellow was required to report to work at the defendant's office in Charleston and to give up her state vehicle. The suit says Longfellow was relocated in the area even though two male employees in similar positions were permitted to report to work at a WorkForce office, closed to their current home-based office locations.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant refused to allow her to report to WorkForce office and terminated her based upon her refusal to comply with a gender discriminatory requirement.

Longfellow seeks trial by jury, damages for mental and emotional distress, lost wages and benefits, costs and attorney fees and all other appropriate relief. She is represented by attorney Walt Auvil of The Employment Law Center, PLLC in Parkersburg.
