Patient blames physician for injuries

Medical malpractice 08

PRINCETON — A Bluefield man is suing a local physician, alleging his negligence led to pain and medical expenditures for the plaintiff.

Terry M. Auville filed a complaint Feb. 14 in Mercer Circuit Court against Dr. Mohammad Kanawati, alleging the physician violated the West Virginia Medical Professional Liability Act.

According to the complaint, as a result of Kanawati's negligence, Auville suffered reduction in his vision, resulting in a loss of physical function, physical and mental pain and medical expenses. The plaintiff alleges Kanawati deviated from the acceptable standards of medical care, failed to recognize and diagnose the plaintiff's retinal detachment and failed to provide effective treatment.

Auville seeks trial by jury, judgment sufficient to compensate him for his damages, plus interest and costs of court. He is represented by attorney Derrick W. Lefler of Princeton.
