Injured motorist sues driver of rental car

Car accident 45

POINT PLEASANT — A motorist is suing driver James W. Sturgeon III and his rental vehicle's owner, PV Holding Corp., over injuries she sustained in a collision.

Barbara S. Edwards of Gallipolis Ferry filed a complaint in Mason Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that defendant PV Holding negligently allowed an unsound and defective vehicle to be driven on the road. PV Holding is the parent company of Avis Budget Group.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was operating her motor vehicle in Point Pleasant on June 11, 2016, when Sturgeon collided with her vehicle. As a result of the accident, she sustained serious injuries that resulted in pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost wages. The plaintiff holds Sturgeon and PV Holding Corp. responsible because the Sturgeon allegedly failed to maintain proper control of the vehicle, failed to keep careful lookout and failed to maintain proper distance.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against each defendant in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court. She is represented by Bruce Freeman of Freeman & Chiartas in Charleston.
