Health care provider sued over death of inmate

Medical malpractice 08

CHARLESTON — An administrator for the estate of a deceased Kanawha County resident is suing PrimeCare Medical of West Virginia, alleging that insufficient measures were taken by the health care provider to save the resident's life.

Tanya A. Triplett, administrator of the estate of Matthew Wayne Triplett, filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against PrimeCare Medical, alleging that the health care corporation failed to treat Matthew Triplett's life-threatening condition in a timely manner when he was incarcerated.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendant provided medical care and treatment during the Triplett's incarceration at South Central. While under the care of defendant's employees and/or agents, his condition has deteriorated, and he died on Jan. 15, 2015, as a result of a ruptured bowel, the complaint said. The plaintiff holds PrimeCare Medical responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide proper medical care and treatment while Triplett was a patient in the infirmary at South Central.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks punitive and exemplary damages, interest, costs of this action and all further relief as the court may deem proper. She is represented by Robert Welsh and Marvin Masters of The Masters Law Firm L.C. in Charleston.
