Injured visitor sues apartment complex owner

Slip02

BECKLEY — A guest who was visiting a tenant at Pikeview Manor Ltd. is suing the apartment complex owner, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent serious injuries.

Cathy Lynn McGraw filed a complaint March 1 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Pikeview Manor, alleging that the apartment complex breached its duty to provide a safe environment for its tenants and guests.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was an overnight guest of a tenant at the defendant's building on Feb. 28, 2015. While walking down concrete steps toward the parking lot, she slipped and fell on a black ice, sustaining serious injuries that resulted in pain and suffering, loss wages and medical expenses. The plaintiff holds Pikeview Manor responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to clear the steps of snow and ice and failed to provide warnings of the unsafe condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks general and special damages, plus interest, attorney fees, costs and expenses and other relief. She is represented by Sara E. Zeigler and Adam S. McPherson of Kaufman & McPherson PLLC in Bridgeport.
