Estate administrator blames health care providers for family member's injuries

Medical malpractice 02

CHARLESTON — A Beckley woman is suing health care providers, alleging their negligence led to the suffering of a family member.

Millie Cox, administrator of the estate of James Lewis Cox, filed a complaint March 9 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Princeton Community Homecare LLC, doing business as PCH Home Health and Raleigh General Hospital LLC, alleging they negligently deviated from the appropriate standard of care.

According to the complaint, after James Lewis Cox underwent a surgical procedure, including a colonoscopy March 25, 2015, he was readmitted to Raleigh General several times due high fever and chills, abdominal flank pain and nausea.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to remove a wound packing or gauze in James Lewis Cox's surgical site and failed to report and recognize signs and symptoms of infection upon examination.

Millie Cox seeks trial by jury, damages that will fully compensate her for the injuries sustained by James Lewis Cox and all other proper relief. She is represented by attorney William M. Tiano of Tiano O'Dell PLLC in Charleston.
