Injured worker accuses FedEx of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 08

WINFIELD — A Putnam County man is suing Fedex Freight, alleging discrimination and wrongful termination.

Donald E. Young filed a complaint March 9, in Putnam Circuit Court against Fedex Freight Inc., Matt Barrett and William Sergent, alleging violation of the West Virginia Code.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 21, 2016, Young was terminated from his employment while recovering from a worker's compensation injury. The suit said the firing led to economic damages for Young.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants terminated his employment for filing a worker's compensation claim.

Young seeks trial by jury, all back pay and benefits, reinstatement or front pay, punitive damages, attorney fees and court costs and such other equitable relief. He is represented by attorneys J. Michael Ranson and Cynthia M. Ranson of Ranson Law Offices in Charleston.
