Two ex-employees accuse power company of wrongful termination

WAYNE — Two former employees are suing a power company, alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress and wrongful termination.

James W. Workman and Jamie M. Hunter filed a complaint on Feb. 24, in the Wayne Circuit Court against Appalachian Power Company, Richard Wiseman and John Coleman, alleging violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act and the Wage Payment and Collection Act.

According to the complaint, as a result of the defendants' actions, Workman and Hunter have suffered and will continue to suffer lost wages and employment benefits, indignity, embarrassment and annoyance. 

On Feb. 27, 2015, the suit says, they were wrongfully terminated from their employment but were not able to timely receive their final wages. The plaintiffs allege the defendants subjected them to sexual harassment, religious discrimination, hostile work environment, retaliation and termination.

Workman and Hunter seek trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, pre-judgment interest, attorney fees and legal costs and all other just and equitable relief. They are represented by attorneys Todd R. Meadows of The Law Office of Todd R. Meadows in Huntington and Brian D. Yost of Charleston.
