Consumer accuses telecommunications company of unfair practices

PRINCETON — A former Mercer County resident is suing a state telecommunications company, alleging slander and defamation.

Joshua Horne of Pennsylvania filed a complaint April 17 in Mercer Circuit Court against Citizens Telecommunications Company of West Virginia, doing business as Frontier Communications of West Virginia, alleging violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

According to the complaint, as a result of the defendant's actions. Horne has suffered difficulties in obtaining financing for a purchased home. The suit says he has also suffered loss of credit, increased insurance and interest rates, humiliation and embarrassment.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant reported Horne's delinquency to major credit reporting agencies and failed to fully and properly investigate the plaintiff's dispute.

Horne seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, attorney fees, court costs and all other just and equitable relief. He is represented by attorney W. Blake Belcher of Brewster, Morhous, Cameron, Caruth. Moore, Kersey & Stafford PLLC in Bluefield.
