Couple blames medical care providers for husband's hepatitis

Medical malpractice 04

BECKLEY — A couple is suing Raleigh General Hospital and medical care providers, alleging medical negligence led to injuries for the husband.

L.J. and K.J. filed a complaint April 17 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Raleigh General Hospital LLC, Raleigh Clinic Inc. Dr. Thair Barghouth and John Does 1-10, alleging they recklessly disregarded L.J.'s safety and caused him to be infected with hepatitis C.

According to the complaint, during treatment under the defendants' care at Raleigh General on April 29, 2014, , L.J. was exposed to contaminated medical equipment which transmitted certain blood-borne pathogens to his body and caused him to suffer pain and suffering, mental anguish and incur medical expenses.

K.J. says she has suffered loss of consortium and services of her husband.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants negligently used multi-use vials of saline for multiple patients and used the same needle to dilute medication for L.J.

The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages and all other relief the law allows. They are represented by attorneys Eric B. Snyder, P. Gregory Haddad and Rebecca D. Pomeroy of Bailey & Glasser LLP in Charleston.
