Mine foreman accuses coal business of wrongful discharge

Wrongful term 09

BECKLEY — A Raleigh County mine foreman is suing a coal business, alleging alleged wrongful discharge.

Donnie Crum filed a complaint April 18 in Raleigh Circuit Court against International Coal Group Inc., alleging violation of public policy.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 6, 2016, Crum, 55, was terminated from his employment. Crum says he suffered lost wages and benefits, emotional distress and remains unemployed.

The plaintiff alleges International Coal subjected Crum to adverse employment actions in terms and conditions of employment and discharged him for refusing to engage in unsafe mining practices.

Crum seeks trial by jury, plus compensatory and punitive damages in an amount based on the evidence. He is represented by attorney Greg A. Hewtt of Hewitt & Salvatore PLLC in Fayetteville.
