Patient blames ophthalmologist for injuries

Medical malpractice 03

PRINCETON — A patient is suing a licensed ophthalmologist, alleging the defendant's negligence caused injuries.

Billy Page filed a complaint April 20 in Mercer Circuit Court against Dr. Mohammad Y. Kanawati, alleging medical negligence in failing to exercise the degree of care and skill expected of a prudent health care provider.

According to the complaint, Page sustained permanent damage on his optic nerve and retina, which caused him to experience blindness, discomfort and pain and suffering. The plaintiff alleges Kanawati breached his duty to prepare a proper surgical plan in removing Page's cataract May 5, 2015, and failed to recognize the severity of the surgical complications.

Page seeks trial by jury, damages adequate to compensate for damages, plus interest, costs of court and all other just and proper relief. He is represented by attorney Larry O. Ford of Meyer, Ford & Glasser PLLC in Charleston.
