Oil, gas rights property owner accuses leasehold interest owner of trespassing

Oildrill 03

NEW MARTINSVILLE — An oil and gas rights property owner is suing a leasehold interest owner, alleging trespassing.

Ridgeport Capital LP filed a complaint April 20 in Wetzel Circuit Court against Antero Resources Corporation alleging the defendant wrongfully maintained it has a leasehold interest in the plaintiff's oil and gas.

According to the complaint, as a result of defendant's actions, Ridgeport Capital has suffered and continues to suffer monetary damages until the court renders a decision in its favor. The plaintiff alleges the defendant has refused to release the leasehold interest and other ownership interest in Ridgeport's property in the Proctor District of Wetzel County, which expired Dec. 17, 2015.

Ridgeport Capital seeks trial by jury, declaration the lease was not extended beyond its primary term and that the defendant has no right or interest in the plaintiff's oil and gas, damages, interest, attorney fees and court costs and all other proper relief. It is represented by attorney Carl A. Frankovitch of Frankovitch, Anetakis, Simon, Decapio & Pearl LLP in Weirton.
