Parent blames Mingo County school board for son's injuries

Mingocourt

WILLIAMSON — A Lenore parent is suing the Mingo County school board, alleging its negligence caused injuries to his son.

Freddie Copley, as guardian and next friend of Freddie Eugene Copley, a minor, filed a complaint April 27 in Mingo Circuit Court against The Board of Education of the County of Mingo alleging that the school board failed to provide adequate and proper supervision.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 15, 2016, Freddie Eugene Copley was participating in a gym class at Lenore K-8 School when he fell to the floor. The suit says he suffered pain and suffering, emotional trauma and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the Mingo County board failed to undertake precautions to avoid injuries to the child and to provide medical attention.

Freddie Copley seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages, pre-judgment interest, court costs and attorney fees, plus all other proper relief. He is represented by attorney Greg K. Smith of Law Office of Greg K. Smith in Williamson.
