Former employee accuses Montessori school of unlawful termination

Wrongful term 11

CHARLESTON — A Kanawha County woman is suing a Charleston Montessori school, alleging retaliation and wrongful termination.

Amanda S. Cox filed a complaint May 5 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Mountaineer Montessori Inc., alleging violation of West Virginia public policies.

According to the complaint, Cox had taught at Mountaineer Montessori for 20 years. The suit alleges as a result of defendant's retaliatory discharge in 2015, Cox has suffered economic damages, humiliation, embarrassment and other non-economic damages.

The plaintiff alleges Mountaineer Montessori retaliated against her by terminating her employment because she brought attention of the defendant's board members serious departure from the prescribed methods of education.

Cox seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, costs of court and all other lawful and just relief. She is represented by attorney William V. DePaulo of Lewisburg.
