Family member blames health care services for patient's death

Medical malpractice 08

CHARLESTON — A family member is suing health care services, alleging negligence led to the death of relative.

Maxine Brewer, executor of the estate of Shirley Brewer, filed a complaint May 10 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Sunbridge Beckley Health Care LLC, doing business as Pine Lodge, and Genesis Healthcare LLC, alleging that they breached its duty of good faith and fair dealing.

According to the complaint, Shirley Brewer experienced mental pain and suffering, severe emotional distress, suffered from marked dehydration, acute kidney failure, leading to her untimely death  July 27, 2016. The suit says her death resulted from the negligence of agents of the defendants in failing to provide care and treatment to patients.

Maxine Brewer alleges the defendants failed to adequately monitor the patient's fluid status and failed to timely notify the treating physician of changes in the condition of patient. The suit says they acted in willful, wanton and reckless disregard for the health of a patient.

Maxine Brewer seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, interest, costs, and all relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney Charles M. Love IV of The Love Law Firm PLLC in Charleston.
