MORGANTOWN — Estate administrators are suing a hospital and board, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and negligence.

Dedra K. Skinner and Jeffrey L. Sturm, co-administrators of the estate of Emerald B. Sturm filed a complaint June 12 in the Monongalia County Circuit Court against West Virginia University Board of Governors and West Virginia University Hospitals Inc., alleging they failed to provide timely medical assistance to Emerald B. Sturm.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Feb. 25, 2015, Emerald Sturm suffered a cardiac arrest, which resulted in his death the next day. The plaintiffs hold West Virginia University Board of Governors and West Virginia University Hospitals responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to perform a timely coronary bypass surgery on Emerald Sturm.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendant for compensatory damages, punitive damages, interest, all legal fees and other relief the court deems just. They are represented by Richard D. Lindsay of Tabor Lindsay & Associates in Charleston.
