Homeowners claim Liberty Mutual unlawfully denied house fire claim

Insurance 08

WHEELING – A Triadelphia couple alleges their insurer wrongfully denied their house fire claim.

Robert Orum and Connie Orum filed a complaint Aug. 3 in Ohio Circuit Court against Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. citing the West Virginia Unfair Trade Practices Act and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs had home insurance through the defendant and their home was damaged by fire in April 2016 while they were out of town on vacation. They allege the defendant wrongfully investigated the fire as arson despite the fire originating from a power line and denied their claim.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages, punitive damages, all legal fees, interest and any other relief as the court deems just. They are represented by Ronald W. Zavolta and Jordan M. Laird of Zavolta Law Office in Wheeling. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge James P. Mazzone.
