Man files suit against Daniels grocery store after slipping on water

BECKLEY – A man alleges he was injured while shopping at a Daniels grocery store because of water on the floor near the deli.

Robert Godbey and Kathy Godbey filed a complaint Aug. 18 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Cornerstone Galaxy Inc., doing business as Cornerstone IGA No. 2, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Robert Godbey suffered physical injuries when he slipped and fell while visiting the defendant's location on Aug. 19, 2015. The plaintiffs hold Cornerstone Galaxy Inc., doing business as Cornerstone IGA No. 2, responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to keep the premises in a safe in prudent manner.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek all general and special damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. They are represented by Paul S. Detch of Paul S. Detch in Lewisburg. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andrew Dimlich.
