HUNTINGTON – A man currently incarcerated at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville alleges he suffered injuries to his hand because of the actions of correctional officers.
Arron Hudgins filed a complaint Sept. 15 in Cabell Circuit Court against C.O. Coppadonna, C.O. Dempsey, C.O. John Does I-X, The West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority, and John Doe alleging violation of his constitutional rights.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges on Sept. 22, 2015, he was in his cell when Coppadonna slammed the door on his right hand, trapping it. He alleges Dempsey failed to protect him by participating in the incident.
The plaintiff holds C.O. Coppadonna, C.O. Dempsey, C.O. John Does I-X, The West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority, and John Doe responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to take reasonable measures to prevent the unlawful and egregious conduct of Coppadonna and Dempsey in regards to inmates.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in order to adequately compensate him for his damages, compensatory and punitive damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Kerry A. Nessel of The Nessel Law Firm in Huntington. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul T. Farrell.
