Inmate alleges Southern Regional Jail did not send him to hospital for emphysema treatment

Medical malpractice 05

BECKLEY – A Southwestern Regional Jail inmate alleges he did not receive proper care for his emphysema while at the Southern Regional Jail.

Clennel P. Cobb filed a complaint Sept. 18 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Prime Care Inc., et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that an X-ray determined he has emphysema in his left lung and the medical staff at Southern Regional Jail did not send him to a hospital. He alleges he filed grievances and nothing was done.

The suit states that after the plaintiff was transferred to the Southwestern Regional Jail in May, he was sent to a hospital for treatment. He alleges that a physician later told him he needed a lung transplant and placed him on a donor list.

The plaintiff seeks permission to consult with a lung specialist he was referred to at the soonest possible time. He is representing himself. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
