CHARLESTON – Charles R. “Rusty” Webb of the Webb Law Centre has been selected as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers of 2017 by the National Trial Lawyers.

The organization selects the most outstanding attorneys who show the highest standards in representing clients as civil plaintiff or criminal defense lawyers, and also provides networking opportunities, advocacy training and educational programs for trial lawyers.

Asked what characteristics he showed to win the award, Webb said meeting the needs of his clients.

“I have for 30 years put my clients first,” he told The West Virginia Record.

Webb said he has handled just about every kind of case from car accidents to class action suits and mass torts (group lawsuits similar to a class action but where plaintiffs are handled individually).

“I represent a lot of clients in southern West Virginia,” Webb said. “The people here are very gracious people. They’re the kind of people who show you a lot of gratitude when they are treated right."

Economically, Webb said parts of West Virginia have become depressed areas where coal mining had formerly been a major industry.

“Coal is no longer the king,” he said. “I grew up in Madison, and I come from a coal background. My dad was a coal miner, and so was my grandfather.”

Webb attended the West Virginia University College of Law in Morgantown.

Selection to become a Top 100 Lawyer is based on peer nomination and third-party research. Membership is given to those attorneys who exhibit excellence of leadership, reputation, influence, stature and public profile among other qualities.

“Each of our distinguished Top 100 members possess the skill, experience and success held only by the best and finest lawyers,” the organization’s website, thenationaltriallawyers.org, stated.

Webb reiterated that having the right priorities is key to being a great attorney.

“Keeping the best interest of the client at heart,” he said. “When you do that, the clients will thank you.”
