CHARLESTON – A Cabell County resident alleges that she is an experienced truck driver but was not hired by a Kanawha County business because of her sex.
Sandra Johnson filed a complaint Sept. 19 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Central Transport alleging that the employer violated the West Virginia Human Rights Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendant advertised that it was hiring truck drivers and that she applied for a position on June 22. She alleges she was rejected and that the terminal manager told her when she applied that he was "not allowed" to hire women.
The plaintiff holds Central Transport responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to hire her as a commercial truck driver because of her sex.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and attorney's fees and such other general and appropriate relief. She is represented by Kristina Thomas Whiteaker and David L. Grubb of The Grubb Law Group in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit.
