PRINCETON – A Mercer County couple alleges negligent treatment led to an amputation.

Delva R. Cooper and Daniel A. Cooper filed a complaint Sept. 21 in Mercer Circuit Court against Princeton Community Hospital Association Inc. citing the West Virginia Professional Medical Liability Act.

According to the complaint, Delva R. Cooper was admitted to the defendant's facility on Aug. 31, 2015, and an IV was placed in her right forearm. The suit states that during her stay, the condition of her right hand declined, was determined to be ischemic and eventually had to be amputated.

The plaintiffs hold Princeton Community Hospital Association Inc. responsible because the defendant's employees allegedly negligently administered IV medications and failed to timely and properly treat an extravasation.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek all economic and non-economic damages and all compensatory damages. They are represented by Arden J. Curry II and David K. Schwirian of Pauley Curry PLLC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge William J. Sadler.
