KINGWOOD – Two Kingswood residents are suing the city after raw sewage backed up into their home earlier this year.

Charles Keefer and Debbie Keefer filed a complaint Oct. 13 in Preston Circuit Court against the City of Kingwood alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on March 31, their Kingwood property sustained significant damages when raw sewage backed up in their basement. The suit states that the pump station near Manown failed, which caused the backup.

They allege they were required to expend money for removal of the damaged property, hiring of professional cleaners and rebuilding the damaged property.

The plaintiffs hold the city of Kingwood responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to maintain the sewage system.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages, attorney's fees, costs, expenses and such other appropriate relief. They are represented by Mark E. Gaydos and Samuel Hess of McNeer, Highland, McMunn and Varner LC in Kingwood. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Lawrence S. Miller Jr.
