HUNTINGTON – A Tri-State Transit Authority bus passenger is suing the entity after falling while riding a bus.

Tonetta Scott filed a complaint Oct. 20 in Cabell Circuit Court against Tri-State Transit Authority alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 22, 2015, she was a passenger on the defendant's bus and was injured when the bus came to an abrupt stop, causing her to fall from her seat and on to the floor. She alleges she sustained severe and permanent injuries resulting in pain and suffering, loss of income and medical expenses.

The plaintiff holds Tri-State Transit Authority responsible because the defendant's employee or driver allegedly failed to maintain control of the bus and operated it with utter disregard of the safety of others.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, with interest, costs and such other appropriate relief. She is represented by Matthew J. Woelfel of Woelfel & Woelfel LLP in Huntington. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul T. Farrell.
