CHARLESTON – A Charleston woman alleges she was discriminated against and unlawfully terminated from her independent contractor position.

Sharon Denise Shand filed a complaint Oct. 20 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Freight Handlers Inc., RJ Reynolds, One Stop/Turn Out V LP alleging discrimination, harassment, breach of contract and contract/employment misclassification.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was an independent contractor for Freight Handlers and represented a product called Zonnic. She alleges she was harassed and treated unfairly because she is a black female, such as being audited before she could service new stores and reductions in pay. She alleges after she was terminated, her route was given to a Caucasian female.

The plaintiff alleges she was terminated in July 2016 by Freight Handlers and was not given a reason for her termination. She alleges Freight Handlers has refused to communicate with her.

She is representing herself.
