Former Raleigh General Hospital employee alleges she was terminated because of age, gender

Wrongful term 12

BECKLEY – A Raleigh County woman alleges she was wrongfully terminated from her job at Raleigh General Hospital.

Tammie Fleenor filed a complaint Oct. 26 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Raleigh General Hospital LLC, Chris Bebe, Karen Sumpter (also known as Karen Cassity) and Vivian White citing the West Virginia Human Rights Act and retaliatory discrimination.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired by Raleigh General Hospital in April 2011 as a registered certified central sterile technician. She alleges she was terminated Oct. 29, 2015, because she reported multiple instances of wrongdoing and because of her age and gender.

The plaintiff holds Raleigh General Hospital LLC, Bebe, Sumpter and White responsible because the defendants allegedly made false allegations of insubordination because the plaintiff was concerned about professional conduct and patient safety.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary judgment equal to back pay and benefits owing to her, compensatory damages, punitive damages, court costs, reinstatement or front pay, all other damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Stephen P. New and Stacey L. Fragile of Stephen P. New Attorney at Law in Beckley. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andrew Dimlich.
