CHARLESTON – A tenant at an apartment complex in Charleston alleges she was injured by a door in her apartment.
Teresa A. Ewing filed a complaint Nov. 16 in Kanawha Circuit Court against A & M Land Co. LLC and Melvin Parsley alleging negligence, breach of contract and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff was a resident of the Valleywood Apartments and had notified maintenance staff of issues and concerns with the storm door in her apartment multiple times. The suit states on Nov. 21, 2015, her hands, wrists and arms were severely injured when the glass panes of the storm door in her apartment unit broke. She alleges she suffered severe and permanent injuries, emotional distress and permanent scarring.
The plaintiff holds A & M Land Co. LLC and Parsley responsible because the defendants allegedly refused to repair the storm door and failed to prevent a foreseeable risk of harm.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs, expenses, attorney's fees and such other and further relief. She is represented by Timothy D. Houston of Brown | Houston PLLC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Louis H. Bloom.
