WHEELING – A Wheeling Jesuit University softball player and student alleges that the university's failure to maintain training equipment caused her head injuries.

Rachel A. Conrad filed a complaint Jan. 3 in Ohio Circuit Court against Wheeling Jesuit University Inc. and John Doe(s) alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 26, 2016, she was in the gym when a softball hit by another team member passed through a hole in a net and struck her in the head. She alleges she suffered serious and permanent injuries, mental anguish, lost wages and loss of earning capacity.

The plaintiff holds Wheeling Jesuit University Inc. and John Doe(s) responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide net and tee training equipment that were not worn or faulty with holes and failed to properly inspect and maintain the equipment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and general damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs, attorney's fees and such other general and specific relief. She is represented by James A. Villanova and Michael E. Metro of Villanova Law Offices PC in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Ohio Circuit Court case number 18-C-7
