Three-judge panel to hear Yeager Airport landslide

CHARLESTON – A three-judge panel is set to hear the Yeager Airport landslide cases later this week.

Members of the airport’s Resolution Committee voted on Tuesday to authorize Yeager’s director, Terry Sayre, to work with insurers to settle the cases.

On March 12, 2015, the landslide occurred at the airport’s overrun safety area, which caused more than 130 residents of Keystone Drive to be displaced and damaged nearly a dozen homes. Keystone Apostolic Church was also destroyed in the landslide.

The incident resulted in many lawsuits against the airport filed by those who were affected. The airport, in turn, sued a number of defendants in connection with the construction of the engineered material arresting system.

Mediation will begin Feb. 1.

In July, Yeager Airport and Triad Engineering entered into a settlement in  the airport’s lawsuit.

The partial settlement was for $900,000, according to Yeager’s Resolution Committee. The settlement released  the officers and their company assets from any claims that the airport had against them.
