Law money 05

CHARLESTON – A Putnam County consumer alleges debt consolidation companies unlawfully used her private financial information to advertise their services.

Vicki Ross filed a complaint Jan. 10 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia against Huron Law Group PLLC, GRT Financial Inc., et al., alleging that they knowingly violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

According to the complaint, the defendants are part of a joint venture to advertise and sell debt consolidation services. The plaintiff alleges that "each of the defendants played a part in illegally providing, accessing and using thousands of consumer credit reports to obtain private financial information," the suit states, which was used to market debt consolidation services to "financially distressed consumers."

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order certifying this case as a class action, appointing her as class representative and her counsel as class counsel, award for all damages, attorneys’ fees, costs, interest and all other appropriate relief. She is represented by John W. Barrett and Sandra Henson Kinney of Bailey & Glasser LLP in Charleston.
