Machinist accuses longtime employer of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 08

PRINCETON — A Mercer County machinist is suing his former employer, alleging discrimination, hostile work environment and wrongful termination.

Lawrence Conner Jr. filed a complaint March 26 in Mercer Circuit Court against Carter Machinery Company, alleging violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, on March 28, 2016, Conner, who had worked for Carter Machineryas a machinist and welder since 2001, was terminated from his employment, causing him lost wages and benefits, indignation and severe mental anguish. The suit says Conner had allegedly engaged in dangerous conduct in the workplace.

The plaintiff alleges Carter Machinery subjected him to severe and persuasive hostile and offensive conduct, retaliated against him and terminated his employment base on his age (60) and for engaging in protected activity.

Conner seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees, court costs and all other appropriate relief. He is represented by attorney Derrick W. Lefler of Princeton.
