BECKLEY — A Beckley woman is suing freight trucking operators, alleging negligence in causing a collision.

Audrey Thomas filed a complaint May 4 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Southern Tank Transport Inc. and Shawnory Mann, alleging Southern Tank negligently entrusted its tanker truck to Mann, a careless driver.

According to the complaint, on March 1, 2017, Thomas was a rear seat passenger in a car driven by Thurman Lester on the Interstate Highway 77 Haprer Road exit ramp. The suit says Thomas was injured when the vehicle she was riding in was struck by the tanker truck driven by Mann and owned by Southern Tank.

Thomas says she sustained permanent injuries, mental anguish, pain and suffering and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Mann failed to obey a traffic signal and failed to pay proper attention on the road to avoid an accident.

Thomas seeks trial by jury, judgment in excess of the jurisdictional limits of the court, pre- and post-judgment interest and costs. She is represented by Gregory B. Chiartas of Freeman & Chiartas PLLC in Charleston.
