LOGAN — A Logan County patient is suing a doctor and medical facility, alleging medical malpractice.

Judy A. Vance filed a complaint May 4 in Logan Circuit Court against Dr. James R. Long III. doing business as TeamHealth, alleging the defendant deviated from the acceptable standards of care expected of a reasonable, prudent doctor practicing in the emergency department.

According to the complaint, on July 2, 2016, while a patient of Long's, Vance was subjected to an unnecessary delay in undergoing a surgical procedure on the vasculature of her right leg, thereby increasing damages from the injury.

As a result, Vance says she was forced to undergo multiple subsequent surgeries on her right leg because of the delay.

The plaintiff alleges TeamHealth failed to provide timely and necessary treatment in the emergency room when Vance was diagnosed with a large hematite with ongoing and active extravasation and hemorrhage with the tissues of her right leg.

Vance seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs, attorney fees, and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney Robert P. Welsh of The Masters Law Firm, LC in Charleston.
