CHARLESTON — A Boone County licensed nurse is suing a correctional facility, alleging sexual harassment.

Kerrianna Cornett filed a complaint May 4 in Kanawha Circuit Court against West Virginia Regional Jail & Correctional Facility Authority and Primecare Medical of West Virginia, alleging violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, in September. 2017, Cornett was hired as a licensed practical nurse at South Regional Jail. After being hired, the suit says, Cornett was repeatedly subjected to offensive, unwelcome sexual overtures from a co-employee.

Despite reporting and complaining about the sexual harassment, Cornett says, the conduct continued. She says her complaints were not kept confidential and were openly discussed and used as a basis to intimidate and ridicule her. As a result, Cornett alleges she had no alternative but to leave her employment.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to stop the unlawful sexual harassment and retaliated against her for reporting sexual harassment by creating a hostile work environment.

Cornett seeks trial by jury, all damages provided by law and all other relief the court deems as just and equitable. She is represented by attorneys Maria W. Hughes and Mark Goldner of Hughes & Goldner, PLLC in Charleston.
